    2 cups  sugar
    1 cup (sticks)  butter, softened
    1 tsp  vanilla
    3/4 tsp  almond extract
    2  eggs
    2 1/4 cup  cake flour
    1 cup  cocoa
    2 tsp  baking soda
    1/2 tsp  salt
    2 1/4 cup  buttermilk
Buttercream frosting (below)
      Sliced almonds
Heat oven 350 degrees F. Grease and flour 3 round pans 9 x 1 1.2 inch. Beat sugar, butter, vanilla and almond extract in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Mix cake flour, baking soda, and salt; beat into sugar mixture alternately with buttermilk on medium speed. Beat one minute longer. Pour into pans. Bake 30-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire rack. Cool completely. Fill layers and frost cake with Buttercream Frosting. Garnish with almonds. Buttercream Frosting
    6 cups  powered sugar
    1 cup  butter softenened
    4-6 tablespoons  milk
    1 1/2 tsp  vanilla
    3/4 tsp  almond extract

Beat all on medium speed until light and fluffy.

Notes: made for Mayo's birthday in Iowa.
