6. Rice and Pulse-Meal (1) (Jaulo-NePali)

Jaulo is a meal in which rice and pulse are mixed. It is generally used as light food, especially for children and sick servings' It is very nutritive food. Many people eat jaulo now and then because it is very easy to prepare. | |
1 cup | rice |
1 cup | husked green gram, (moongko chanta) |
1/4 teasPoon | turmeric, (besar) |
1 tablespoon | ghiu, (clarified butter) |
Salt | |
1/2 teaspoon | cumin |
Pinch of asafoetida (hing) (optional) | |
3 cups | hot boiled water |
Soak rice and pulse in water for 10-15 minutes. Wash and drain water off. Heat ghiu in a saucepan. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida. Add rice, pulse, salt and water.
Boil till rice and pulse become tender. More water can be added if required.
Yield: 2-3 servings
