Parippu Ball Curry

    100g  dhal
    1 teaspoon  turmeric
    1  onion, chopped
    2  garlic cloves, chopped
    3  green chillies, (2 chopped, 1 sliced)
    1  Knorr Chicken Cube
    50g  wheat flour
    1 cup  thick coconut milk
    ½  tomato
    1 teaspoon  curry powder
    1 tablespoon  chilli powder
      Rampe and curry leaves
    1 tablespoon  Astra
      Oil to deep fry

METHOD

Add dhal, a pinch of chilli powder and turmeric into a pot. Add water and boil till dhal cooks.
When water evaporates, add the Knorr Chicken Cube and mix well.
In a separate bowl, pour in the cooked dhal and mash well using your hands. Then, mix in the chopped green chilli, flour and half of the chopped onion. Make small balls out of the dhal mixture and deep fry in oil till golden brown.
Heat up a pan and melt Astra. Add the balance chopped onion, garlic, sliced green chilli, rampe and curry leaves. Sauté till fragrant.
Next, add tomato, coconut milk and the rest of the chilli powder and curry powder. Bring to boil and add fried balls of dhal. Season to taste and serve hot.

A quick Sri Lankan recipe which makes the most out of simple ingredients and exciting textures!

Chef’s Tip:
Do not over-fry the dhal balls as they will get too hard.
