Onion Chutney

2 (400 g,14 oz) | large onions, coarsely chopped |
2 cm (1 in) | ginger, chopped |
3 | green chillies |
4 tablespoons | lemon or lime juice |
2 tablespoons | oil |
1 | dried red chilli, cut into 2-cm (1-in) pieces |
1 teaspoon | cumin seeds |
1 teaspoon | salt |
1 Combine the onions, ginger, chillies and lemon or lime juice in a blender until smooth.
2 Heat oil over medium heat and fry the dried chilli until browned, then add the cumin seeds. When it stops spluttering pour over the ground ingredients, add salt and mix well.
3 Serve with thosai or idli.
