Irish Wheaten Bread (Make in honour of Mom/Grandma Herd) Not her exact recipe as that was in her head, but a close second).
1 1/2 cups  all purpose flour
1 1/2 cups  whole wheat flour
1/4 cup  sugar,, (original recipe said 1/2 cup)
    2 tsp.  baking powder
    1 tsp.  baking soda
    1 tsp.  salt
1 cup  buttermilk or soured milk
    3/4 cup  sweet milk

Combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl.
Make a well in the centre, and add both milks.
Mix well.
Turn batter into greased 8 1/2 x 4" loaf pan.
Sprinkle top lightly with additional whole wheat flour, if desired.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, reduce heat to 325 degrees and bake another 15-20 ( I do 15) minutes or until toothpick inserted in centre comes out clean.

Cool 10 minutes then remove from pan. Cool completely.

Makes one loaf. Wrap well.

Crusty on outside...slice with electric knife if you have one or sharp knife.

Freezes well.... Makes great toast (may need a second push down or part thereof, depending on your 'toast' preference).
