    0.25 kg (1/2 lb)  pitted dates, chopped
    1/4 lb  onions, chopped
    93.75 g (3 oz)  raisins
    31.25 g (0.08 cup)  palm sugar
    1/2 tbsp  salt
    3/4 tsp  garam masala
    1/8 tsp  chilli powder
    3/4 tsp  mustard seeds, pounded coarsely
    1/4 litre (1 cups)  white vinegar

1 Put all the above ingredients into a thick-bottomed pan and cook over medium heat for about 30 minutes or until the chutney thickens.

2 Cool it thoroughly and store in sterilised jars.

3 Serve with any of the bread dishes or rice dishes.
