Apple butter, nuts, and currents in a sliced jelly roll. Origninally in a crescent roll
    3 cups  flour
    1/4 teaspoon  baking soda
    1/4 teaspoon  salt
    2 sticks  butter, softened, no substitutions
    3/4 cup  sugar
    1  egg
    1 teaspoon  vanilla extract
    1 cup  currants
    2/3 cup  pecans or walnuts, finely chopped
    1/4 cup  brown sugar, packed
    1 1/2 teaspoons  apple pie spice
    3 tablespoons  sugar
    2/3 cup  apple butter

1. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt on piece of waxed paper
2. Cream butter and sugar on medium. Add eggs and vanilla.
3. Reduce speed to low and gradually add dry ingredients
4. Divide into 4 equal pieces. Flatten into disks and in plastic wrap. Refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.
5. In small bowl add currants, nuts, brown sugar, 1 teaspoons apple pie spice. In another bowl combine sugar and remaining spice.
6. Preheat oven to 350
7. Roll into 8x 10 inch rectangle spread with heaping tablespoon of apple butter and ½ cup fruit mixture, leaving ¼ inch edge
8. Roll into log. Freeze 30 minutes.
9. Slice into 1/4-1/2 inch slices and place 1 inches apart on UNGREASED cookie sheet. Sprinkle on sugar mixture.
11. Bake 10-15 minutes or until edges and golden brown. Shift Immediately. Repeat.
Store at room temperature for 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months.
