    1/4 C  shortening
    1 1/2 C  sugar
    3  eggs
    2 1/2 C  flour
    2 1/2 tsp  baking powder
    1 1/2 tsp  baking soda
    1/2 tsp  salt
    3/4 C  buttermilk or sour milk
    1 C  mashed bananas, (about 2)
    1 1/2 tsp  vanilla
    1/2 C  chopped nuts

--Preheat oven to 350.
--Cream shortening & sugar. Add eggs one at a time & beat well.
--Sift dry ingredients. Add alternately with buttermilk & mashed bananas. Add the vanilla.
--Pour into 2 9-inch greased & floured cake pans. Bake for 25-35 minutes or until tests done. Cool completely.
NOTE: Make sour milk by adding 1 Tbsp vinegar to 3/4 c milk.
