Caramel Popcorn

3 quarts | popped corn |
1 cup | firmly packed brown sugar, light |
1/2 cup | Karo corn syrup, dark |
1/2 cup | butter |
1/2 teaspoon | salt |
1/2 teaspoon | baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon | vanilla |
In the saucepan, combine butter, salt, Karo syrup, brown sugar. Stir constantly until it starts to boil. Let boil without stirring for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
Remove from heat; stir in baking soda and vanilla (mixture will turn a cream color). Pour over warm popcorn; toss to coat well. Bake 60 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes. Cool; break apart. Store in tightly covered container.
(1/2 cup Orville Redenbacher kernels will pop approximately 3 quarts popcorn)
