| ½ cup | shortening |
| 2 cups | sugar |
| 2 | eggs |
| 2 cups | flour |
| 2 teaspoons | baking soda |
| 2 teaspoons | cinnamon |
| 2 teaspoons | nutmeg |
| ½ teaspoon | salt |
| 4 cups | apples, finely chopped |
| ½ cup | nuts |
| Sauce | |
| ½ cup | margarine |
| ½ cup | cream |
| 1 cup | sugar |
| 1 teaspoon | vanilla |
Cake Cream together shortening and sugar, then beat in eggs. Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt. Add dry ingredients to shortening mixture alternately with apples and nuts.
Bake at 350?F for 40 minutes.
Sauce Warm together margarine, cream, sugar, and vanilla in a small saucepan. Pour a small amount of the warm sauce over pieces of cake as they are being served.
