    1/4 c.  soy sauce
    1/8 tsp.  garlic powder
    1/2 tsp.  ginger
    1/4 c. plus 1 T.  sugar
    3/8 c.  cooking sherry
    1/8 tsp.  onion powder
    1/4 c.  brown sugar
    8 small  salmon steaks

Combine all ingredients except salmon in a saucepan and simmer for 45 minutes. Do not boil. Make sure sugar dissolves completely. Cool.

Marinate steaks 4 hours in sauce. Bake in oiled glass dish in oven at 400 degrees for 12 - 15 minutes, or grill over hot coals until fish flakes easily when tested with a fork.
