Brown Sugar Coffee Cake | |
1 1/2 cups | all purpose flour |
1/2 cup | granulated sugar |
1/2 teaspoon | salt |
1 large | egg |
1/2 cup | sour cream |
1/4 cup | whole milk |
4 tablespoons | unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled |
1 granny smith apple, peeled, cores and chopped Topping | |
1/2 cup | firmly packed brown sugar |
1/4 cup | all purpose flour |
3 tablespoons | cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/2 inch pieces |
1/2 cup | chopped walnuts |
Preheat oven to 400 Butter an 8 inch square baking pan
In large bowl, whisk flour, granulated sugar, baking powder and salt. In medium bowl, whisk the egg just until the yolk ands white are blended. Add the sour cream, milk and melted butter and mix well. Pour the egg mixture into the flour mixture and stir just until the ingredients are blended. Stir in the chopped apple. Spread batter evenly in prepared pan
To make topping. In bowl, combine brown sugar,flour and butter. Using your fingers work the ingredients together until a course, crumbly mixture forms. Add the walnuts and mix well with your fingers. Sprinkle topping evenly over batter
Bake coffee cake until topping is browner and a sharp knife inserted in center comes out clean, about 30 minutes. Let cool for about 5 minutes then cut into squares
