Mazurek (Polish Lemon Bars)

2 cups | flour |
1 1/2 cup | sugar |
1/4 tsp | salt |
1/2 cup | butter |
1 | beaten egg |
3 tblsp | milk |
1 | egg |
3 tblsp | lemon juice |
1/2 cup | sliced almonds |
Sift together flour, 1 cup sugar, 1/4 tsp salt. Cut in butter to coarse crumbs. Mix beaten egg with milk. Add to flour mixture. Stir until moist. Put evenly into 13x9x2 inch pan. Bake 350 degrees 35 minutes. Beat 1 egg, stir in lemon juice and remaining sugar. Add almonds, remove pastry from oven. Spread with lemon mixture. Return to oven. Bake 10-12 minutes more. Cool. Yield: 24 bars
