Preparation time:
Total time: 20 minutes
Source: An Indian Housewife's Recipe Book

Sugar can be added to give the pickle a slightly sweeter taste.
    55g (2oz)  green chillies
30ml (1 fl oz)  cooking oil
1/4 tsp  whole jeera, (cumin seeds)
1/4 tsp  whole rai, (black mustard seeds)
    1/4 tsp  hing, (asafoetida)
    1/2 tsp  salt
    1/2 tsp  turmeric powder
    15ml (1/2fl oz)  lemon juice
    1/2 tsp  sugar, (optional)
    30ml (lfl oz)  water

Method

1. Remove the stems and slice the chillies into halves lengthways. (Remember to wash hands thoroughly after handling the chillies otherwise the chillies leave a burning sensation on them.)

2. Place the cooking oil in a frying pan. Heat the oil to a high temperature; add the jeera, rai, and asafoetida. Leave to cook for a few seconds until they are slightly brown. Add the chillies, salt, turmeric powder, lemon juice, sugar (if used) and water. Bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 5 minutes.

3. Place the cooked chillies in a serving dish.
