|1 Cup||brown sugar|
|1/2 Cup||brown sugar|
|1 Cup||dates, chopped|
|1/2 Cup||nuts, chopped|
|2 tsp||baking powder|
To make syrup:
Combine 1 cup brown sugar and water; cook together 3 minutes to make syrup.
Removed from heat and add butter.
To make batter:
Sift sugar, flour, baking powder and salt together.
Add milk and stir until smooth.
Fold in chopped dates and nuts, blending well into mixture.
Pour syrup in a greased baking dish.
Pour batter on top of hot syrup and bake at 350 for 35 minutes.
Serve plain or with whipped cream.
