Beef Stew

2 tbs | olive oil |
1 tsp | sugar |
1 tbs | flour |
2 tsp | salt |
1/4 tsp | pepper |
1 tsp | chili powder, (optional) |
1 | bay leaf |
1/4 tsp | thyme |

4 | cloves |
2 tomatoes or canned 1 green pepper coarsely chopped | |
2 cups | beef stock |
1 cup | boiling water or more stock |
6 small | potato pared & halved |
6 small | carrot scraped & halved |
6 small | onion peeled |
4 stalks | celery sliced |
1 cup | peas |
Brown meat. Sprinkle w/ sugar & brown until well seared. Dust lightly w/ flour & continue browning. Move to crockpot. Add drippings if possible. Add seasonings, cloves, and vegetables, stock, & flour. Cover & cook 5 hours. Add peas after cooking.
