Beef Stew

| 2 lb | beef stew meat |
| 2 tbs | olive oil |
| 1 tsp | sugar |
| 1 tbs | flour |
| 2 tsp | salt |
| 1/4 tsp | pepper |
| 1 tsp | chili powder, (optional) |
| 1 | bay leaf |
| 1/4 tsp | thyme |
| savory, alternative | |
| 4 | cloves |
| 2 tomatoes or canned 1 green pepper coarsely chopped | |
| 2 cups | beef stock |
| 1 cup | boiling water or more stock |
| 6 small | potato pared & halved |
| 6 small | carrot scraped & halved |
| 6 small | onion peeled |
| 4 stalks | celery sliced |
| 1 cup | peas |
Brown meat. Sprinkle w/ sugar & brown until well seared. Dust lightly w/ flour & continue browning. Move to crockpot. Add drippings if possible. Add seasonings, cloves, and vegetables, stock, & flour. Cover & cook 5 hours. Add peas after cooking.
