Benedict's Italian bean soup

Two large jars | Northern beans or 5 to 6 cans of 15 ounce Northern beans |
1 tablespoon | minced garlic |
chopped garlic, alternative | |
1/4 cup | chopped Onions |
1/4 cup | oil |
1 tablespoon | oregano |
1 teaspoon | salt |
1 teaspoon | black pepper |
at least 2 cups of ham or put in the hambone
Water to cover beans
Drain Northern beans and set aside in a large saucepan put on oil and garlic and I can put on low heat until onions turn translucent and garlic is browned.
Then put the drain beans in a pan and cover with water at least a half an inch above the beans add oregano salt and pepper and ham and if you have the ball hambone put that in. Bring the water in the beans to a boil then lower the heat take a little handmixer and mash up a few beans and simmer for at least an hour sir very frequently
