Italian Chocolate Cookies (Karen Longo)

5-6 cups | flour |
5 Tbsp | baking powder |
1 cup | white sugar |
1 cup | brown sugar |
1 cup | cocoa |
1 cup | shortening |
2 large | eggs |
1 1/2 tsp | cloves |
2 tsp | cinnamon |
1/4 tsp | salt |
2 tsp | nutmeg |
1 tsp | vanilla |
1 1/2 cups | chopped walnuts |
1/3 cup | jelly or jam |
1/2 cup | milk |
Beat shortening and sugars and add eggs and beat.
Add vanilla and jelly gradually.
Add all dry ingredients, spices and alternating with milk until all blended.
Add nuts.
You can drop by teaspoon or roll logs and cut up and bake 350 for 10-12 minutes.
Do not over-cook (or they'll get like rocks)
Enjoy and frost very lightly when cool.
