Spicy Shortbread

    1 c  butter at room temp. 3/4 t ground cloves
    1 c  packed dark brown sugar. 1 t baking soda
    1 1/2 T  grated orange peel. 1/8 t salt
    2 T  ground Ginger. 2 c all purpose flour
    1 T  ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Beat butter, sugar, orange peel, spices, baking soda and salt with electric mixer until well blended. Gradually add flour until just blended. Divide dough and press into two 8 or 9" cake pans.

Bake 25 minutes until tops are dry and crackled and edges are slightly higher then center. Cool 5 minutes on rack. Cut each cake into 16 wedges. Prick each wedge in 3 places with a fork. Cool completely in pan. Dust with confectioners sugar before serving.
