Bread Stuffing

Makes enough for a 12 pound turkey. *If cooking without stuffing a turkey chicken broth will be needed to help keep the stuffing moist. Recipe is easily doubled. Ingredients: | |
3/4 cup | finely chopped onion |
1 1/2 cups | chopped celery,, (with leaves if wanted) |
1 cup | butter |
9 cups | soft bread crumbs, if dried bread crumbs are used the chicken broth will have to be used. |
2 teaspoons | salt |
1 1/2 teaspoons | dried sage |
1/4 teaspoon | ground sage |
1 teaspoon | dried thyme leaves |
1/4 teaspoon | poultry seasoning |
1/2 teaspoon | fresh ground black pepper |
Directions:
1. Cook and stir onion and celery in butter in a 10-12 inch skillet until onion is tender.
2. Stir in about 1/3 of the bread crumbs. Turn in a deep mixing bowl.
3. Add remaining ingredients; toss.
4. Stuff turkey just before roasting.
5. Cook at 325 for approx .75 hour or until hot throughout.
*if cooking without stuffing turkey add 1 can of chicken broth and mix thoroughly. If making a double batch add 2 cans. Cook covered until heated throughout then cook an additional 15 minutes uncovered. Total time depends on amount. For a double amount cook for a total of 1.25 hours.
