    250 g  butter
    1 cup  castor sugar
    3  eggs, separated
    2 cups  self-raising flour
    1 cup  buttermilk
    1 T  lemon rind
Beat butter, sugar and lemon rind together. Add egg yolks. Add flour and buttermilk. Lastly add beaten egg whites. Bake at 170 deg C for 1 hour.
    1/3 cup  lemon juice
    3/4 cup  sugar
    1/4 cup  water

Boil together. Pour over cake as soon as it is removed from oven.
