Lemon buttermilk cake

250 g | butter |
1 cup | castor sugar |
3 | eggs, separated |
2 cups | self-raising flour |
1 cup | buttermilk |
1 T | lemon rind |
Beat butter, sugar and lemon rind together. Add egg yolks. Add flour and buttermilk. Lastly add beaten egg whites. Bake at 170 deg C for 1 hour. | |
1/3 cup | lemon juice |
3/4 cup | sugar |
1/4 cup | water |
Boil together. Pour over cake as soon as it is removed from oven.
