Fried cabbage

Prep - 5 minutes Cook - 10 minutes
    3 slices  bacon, cut into thirds
    1/3 cup  vegetable oil
    1 teaspoon  salt, or to taste
    1 teaspoon  ground black pepper, or to taste
    1 head  cabbage, cored and sliced
    1  white onion, chopped
    1 pinch  white sugar

Place the bacon and vegetable oil into a large pot over medium heat. Season with salt, pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes, until tender.

Suggestions:
Skip veg oil and double the bacon ( also, remove bacon).

Sauté onions on the side and then added in.

Add a splash of red wine vinegar and use brown sugar instead of white.

Leave out oil and used just the bacon drippings. Left out onions. Removed bacon before adding cabbage and added it back just before serving. Also cooked it a little longer, till it was just done - a touch crispy and not as limp.
