2 tbsp | trans-free margarine |
3 | onions, thinly sliced |
1 tbsp | sugar |
1 tsp | salt |
2 tbsp | all-purpose flour |
4 cups | reduced-sodium vegetable broth |
1/2 cup | dry white wine,, (optional) |
8 slices | crusty French bread |
1/2 cup | grated reduced-fat Swiss |

DIRECTIONS Heat oil and margarine in large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions and saute, covered, until soft. Add sugar and salt. Cook, uncovered, 15 more minutes. Stir in flour and cook 3 more minutes. Stir onion mixture, broth, and wine, if using, in 4-quart or larger slow cooker. Cover. Cook on low 6 to 8 hours. Toast bread.
