HH Applesauce Cake

1 c | sugar |
1/2 c | crisco |
2 | eggs |
2 c | flour |
1 t | ground cinnamon |
1/2 t | ground cloves |
1/2 t | freshly grated nutmeg |
1 T | baking powder |
1/2 t | salt |
1 c | chopped nuts |
1 c | raisins |
1 c | unsweetened applesause |
powdered sugar, to dust |
Preheat oven to 350F. Grease 9x13x2 pan.
Cream together the sugar and crisco until fluffy, using an electric mixer.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well. In another bowl, sift together the flour, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, baking powder, and salt. Stir the nuts and raisins into the flour mixture. Add the flour mixture and applesauce alternately to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the flour. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 45 minutes or until the center of the cake is firm to the touch. Dust with powdered sugar. Serves 16.
