Gerald Phillips. Brown Bread. (Set oven to 350). Bake 35 to 60 minutes In a small bowl mix: | |
2 T | yeast |
2 T | sugar |
1 1/4 C | warm water |
Mix and set aside cover with a towel to keep warm 2. C oatmeal 2. C cornmeal Rub between palms to break up oatmeal 3. C boiling water Add to oatmeal mixture and stir | |
1/2 C | hard margarine cut up |
1/2. C of molasses
1/2. C. Brown sugar
1. T salt
Add to oatmeal mixture and stir until butter is melted, add 4 Cups of
water approx. to make mixture warm
Stir
Add yeast mixture
Next stir in flour until mixture becomes stiff
Grease hands and start kneading,adding flour and keep doing so until dough is No longer sticky
Lightly flour counter and put dough out on it, cover with a towel and let rest
20 minutes
Grease bread bowl and lid with butter and margarine.
Knead dough with greased hands add a little bit of flour at a time until dough
Is ready.
Place back in bread bowl and cover with lid and let it raise until doubled in size in oven with light on
Punch down and let rise again.
Place in bread pans put in oven with light on covered with a towel, let rise until
Doubled in size
Place in oven.
Yield: Approximately 7 to 9 loaves depending on the size you make the loaves!
