Hooray for Healthy Eggnog! This entry was posted on December 15, 2012 and tagged Dairy-free, Food allergies, Inflammation, Recipe. Bookmark the permalink. Mmmm eggnog… So good, but so bad for the arteries and waistline since it’s packed with loads of unhealthy fat, cholesterol and sugar. At 380 calories per serving – even if you skip mixing it with rum – my all-time favourite holiday beverage is a little too naughty even though it tastes nice. But finally, my search for a healthy eggnog alternative is over. My new and improved version of the holiday favourite is so darn tasty and easy to make, I just had to share it with you. Turmeric is the vivid yellow-orange spice that gives this recipe its colour and health benefits. Turmeric is a source of curcumin, a polyphenol with tremendous anti-inflammatory properties. In fact, research has found curcumin to be helpful in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis, cancer and cardiovascular disease. Additionally, curcumin may offer health benefits for people with Alzheimer’s disease since chronic inflammation plays a role in the progression of the condition. Ingredients:
1 carton  unsweetened coconut milk like Coconut Dream, (about 1 L)
    1/2 tsp  nutmeg
    1/2 tsp  turmeric
    1 tsp  maple syrup

Instructions:

Combine ingredients in a blender. Blend for 30 seconds until spices have dissolved. Serve chilled, over ice, garnished with a pinch of nutmeg.

Serves 4-6

Cheers!
