Pear "not tomato" sauce

Found this recipe in a great book called, "The Failsafe Cookbook, by Sue Dengate." In the book the recipe is known as Birgit's pear ketchup (pg192). It is a great substitute for tomato sauce. Ingredients:-
    1 large tin (825g)  pears in syrup
    1/2 cup  brown sugar
    1 1/2 tsp  citric acid
    1 tsp  salt

Method:-
Drain syrup into a saucepan and simmer until reduced to half. Puree pears with stick blender and add with remaining ingredients to pan. Simmer for approximately 15 minutes or until mixture thickens. Allow to cool. Store in an airtight container in the fridge or bottle while still warm in sterilised bottles like you would for jam.
