1/4 cup | slivered almonds, toasted |
1-1/2 cups | loosely packed fresh spinach leaves |
1-1/2 cups | loosely packed fresh sorrel, arugula, or watercress leaves |
1/3 cup | olive oil |
1/3 cup | grated Parmesan or Romano cheese |
1/2 teaspoon | finely shredded orange peel |
3 tablespoons | orange juice |
1/4 teaspoon | ground red pepper |
1/8 teaspoon | salt |
directions 1. Place almonds in a food processor bowl or blender container. Cover and process or blend the almonds until finely chopped. Add the spinach and sorrel, arugula or watercress; cover. With the machine running, gradually add the oil in a thin, steady stream, processing until the mixture is combined and slightly chunky. Add Parmesan or Romano cheese, orange peel, orange juice, ground red pepper, and salt. Cover and process or blend just until combined. 2. To store, divide pesto into 1/4-cup portions and place in airtight containers. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. To serve, bring pesto to room temperature. Makes 3/4 cup. Make-Ahead Tip: Instead of storing in the refrigerator, divide into freezer containers and freeze up to 1 month. To serve, thaw in the refrigerator and bring pesto to room temperature. Toss with fresh cooked pasta, spread on Boboli or use as a burger topper. Makes about 3/4 cup (12, 1-tablespoon servings). To present this gift... Wash and dry the jar. Avoid touching areas to be painted. To paint white dots, dip the handle end of the paintbrush into paint. Dot onto the raised dots or in rows as desired. Let the paint dry. To add smaller dots, dip the end of a toothpick into the desired colors of paint and dot in the middle of the white dots. Let dry. Bake the painted glassware in oven if instructed by the paint manufacturer. Let cool. Cut a length of wire 8 inches longer than the neck circumference of the jar. Wrap 1 inch of one end of the wire around the handle of the paintbrush. Slip off brush. Thread colored beads on the wire alternating with white beads. Leave 2 inches without beads. Wrap the remaining end of wire around the paintbrush handle. Remove brush. Place the beaded wire around the neck of the jar. Twist the wire to secure. Twist the wire ends together. Also try this... Use elastic thread instead of wire to make a bracelet for the jar trim. To present this gift you will need: Glass jar with or without raised dots Glass paints in white and desired colors Paintbrush | |
