My Moussaka

MY MOUSSAKA | |
500g | lamb mince |
1/2 | onion diced |
2t | crushed garlic |
3T | tomato paste |
1/2c | red wine |
Salt n pepper | |
Zucchini | |
Eggplant | |
1 1/2T | butter |
1 1/2T | plain flour |
1 1/2c | milk |
1c | grated cheese |
Onion powder | |
Garlic powder |
Meat mix
Brown onion and garlic in a little olive oil, add mince and salt and pepper to taste and brown making sure to break mince up finely. Add wine and reduce a little, add paste and simmer until thick (10-15min)
Cheese sauce
Melt butter in saucepan, whisk in plain flour, simmer for abit to cook the flour while constantly stirring. Add a little at a time of warm milk, letting bring to boil in between adding. (when adding the first bit of milk the mixture will go really thick! It's fun to watch what happens lol)
Add salt pepper and sprinkle of the onion and garlic powder to taste. Add grated cheese and mix well. Taste and see if needs more cheese etc.
Assembly
In greased ovenproof dish layer thickly slice eggplant then mince and a little cheese sauce, layer thickly sliced zucchini then mince. Lastly another layer of eggplant, the rest of the mince and completely cover with the remaining cheese sauce.
Bake in moderate (180C) oven until top browns and veggies are cooked (40min)?
Serves 4-5 with side salad, veg or pasta!
