Date Nut Cake

3 | eggs |
1 cup | sugar |
1 cup | flour |
1 Tablespoon | baking powder |
1 teaspoon | salt |
2 (8-oz) packages | whole dates |
2 teaspoons | vanilla |
4 cups | pecan halves |
Heat oven to 300 degrees. Grease and flour a 10" tube pan. Beat eggs until light; add sugar and beat well. Resift flour with salt and baking powder. Mix with eggs and sugar. Mash the dates well with hands and blend into mixture. Add vanilla and pecan halves (do not chop). Mix thoroughly. Bake for 1 - 11/4 hours or until cake tester comes out dry. Serves 12 - 16
*I cut up the dates and moisten then with 1/4 - 1/2 cup of boiling water and work them to a paste.)
