Mom's Broccoli and Spaghetti

broccoli, cleaned and chopped into small pieces | |
spaghetti | |
salt and pepper to taste | |
olive oil | |
Parmesan or Romano cheese, grated, (optional) |
Break spaghetti into small pieces (about 1-inch). Boil enough salted water to hold spaghetti and broccoli. Cook spaghetti until about 2 or 3 minutes from done, then put broccoli in same water. You want the spaghetti and the broccoli to be done at the same time. It will take only a couple of minutes for the broccoli to cook. It gets mushy if overcooked. When broccoli it done, take pot off the stove and add a little olive oil, and salt and pepper to taste. Serve as a soup. Sprinkle with grated cheese if desired.
