1½ pounds | green beans |
1 large | onion, chopped |
1/3 cup | oil |
1 cup | water |
5 | ripe tomatoes, finely chopped, or 1 28-ounce can whole tomatoes, chopped |
1 teaspoon | salt |
½ teaspoon | allspice |
½ teaspoon | pepper |
Wash green beans and cut each in half. Fry onion in hot oil until tender. Add the green beans and sauté for 10 minutes.
Add chopped tomatoes with their juice and water. Sprinkle with salt and spices. Cook on medium heat for 25 minutes or until tender.
NOTE: When using canned or frozen green beans, sauté onions in oil; then add chopped tomatoes with their juice, water, salt, and spices. Let boil. Add the canned or frozen green beans.
