Layered Wheat Germ Brownies - by Hodgson Mill

Bottom Layer: | |
1 cup | untoasted wheat germ |
1/2 cup | flour |
1/2 cup | brown sugar, firmly packed |
6 Tbsp. | butter, melted |
Chocolate Layer: Chocolate Icing: | |
1/3 cup | cocoa. 2 Tbsp. butter |
1/3 cup | butter. 3 Tbsp. cocoa |
3/4 cup | sugar 1 cup sifted powdered sugar |
2 eggs. 1 tsp. vanilla | |
1 tsp | vanilla. 1-1/2 Tbsp. hot water |
2/3 cup | untoasted wheat germ |
1/2 cup | flour |
1/4 tsp. | baking powder |
1/4 tsp. | salt |
1- Preheat oven to 350 deg.
2 - mix together bottom layer ingredients and pat down in an ungreased 9 inch square pan. Set Aside.
3- Melt cocoa and butter over low heat, stirring occasionally.
4- Beat in sugar, eggs and vanilla.
5- Mix together wheat germ, flour, baking powder and salt. Add to cocoa.
6- Spread over bottom layer.
7- Bake 25-30 min. Cool slightly, frost with icing (below)
Icing
1- Melt butter and cocoa.
2- Mix in powdered sugar, vanilla, and hot water.
3- Spread over cooled brownies.
