    3 cups  flour
    1 teaspoon  baking soda
    ¼ teaspoon  cream of tartar
    ½ tablespoon  cinnamon
    ½ pound  butter or margarine
    1½ tablespoons  water
    2 cups  brown sugar
    ½ tablespoon  almond or vanilla extract
    1 cup  walnuts or pecans, chopped

Measure flour and sift; add baking soda, cream of tartar, and cinnamon. In another bowl cream butter, add water and brown sugar, and vanilla; then add flour mixture and nuts. Mix it well. Shape into 2 loafs. Wrap in wax paper. Chill overnight or freeze until needed. Slice ½ thick and bake on ungreased cooking sheet.

Bake at 325?F for 10 minutes.
