Easy Apple Struddel

1 1/2 cup | fresh apples, sliced |
1/2 tsp | cinnamon |
1 tbsp | sugar |
1 tbsp | flour |
1/4 cup | dried cranberries, (optional) |
1/4 cup | macadamian nuts, chopped |
2 tbsp | brown sugar |
1 tbsp | white sugar |
1 tbsp | quick oats |
1 | puff pastry package |
1 | egg |
1-2 tbsp | butter, room temp & very soft |
Pre-heat oven at 375 degrees F. Adjust rack to lower third of oven.
1. Mix the sliced apples, cinnamon, sugar and flour. Add the cranberries.
2. In a small bowl mix the macadamian nuts, sugars and oats.
3. Put puff pastry on a well floured surface. Place more flour on top of the pastry. With your rolling pin, make a rectangle shape until you reach 1/8" thick.
4. Nice side should be facing down when assembling struddel.
5. Brush/spread softened butter onto ugly side of pastry (facing up).
6. Put sugar mix down on just 2/3 of the dough. Put apple mix on the bottom 1/3, leaving a 2 inch space on the bottom and sides!
7. Fold-roll the pastry 3 times, creating a log shape. See video at: http://video.about.com/germanfood/Quick-and-Easy-Strudel.htm
8. Place struddel on baking sheet (w/ silplat). Slice the top every inch to vent. Combine egg with a bit of water. Brush well egg wash the top of the struddel.
9. Bake struddel at 375 degrees for 40-45 minutes.
