Gluhwein, or "glow wine" is a traditional German beverage steeped with spices and sweetened with brown sugar. | |
2 tsp. | ground cinnamon |
1 tsp. | dried lemon peel |
1/4 tsp. | ground cloves |
1/4 tsp. | ground nutmeg |
1 (1.5 liters) | burgundy wine |
2 c. | packed brown sugar |
Place spices in a 6" square of cheesecloth or a coffee filter; tie with a string. Combine wine and sugar in a Dutch oven. Add bundle of spices. Stirring constantly, cook over medium heat until sugar dissolves and wine is heated through. Remove spice bundle. Store in an airtight container in refrigerator.
