Garlic-Gruyere Mashed Potatoes

6 medium | potatoes, (3 1/2 lbs.) |
3/4 c. | hot milk |
1/2 c. | sour cream |
1/4 c. | butter, softened |
1/2 tsp. | salt |
1/8 tsp. | ground red pepper |
1 | garlic clove, minced |
1/4 c. | shredded Gruyere cheese |
2 | green onions, thinly sliced |
1/3 c. | chopped baked ham, optional |
Garnish: | sliced green onions |
Peel potatoes; cut into 1" cubes. Cook in boiling water to cover 15 minutes or until tender. Drain. Mash potato with a potato masher; sitr in milk and next 5 ingredients until blended. Sitr in cheese, green onion and, if desired, ham. Garnish, if desired.
