Ingredients:
    1/2 cup  curd
    1/4 tsp  cumin powder
    1/8 tsp  green chilli-ginger paste
    1/8 tsp  black salt
      Salt to taste
For the tempering:
    1/4 tsp  oil
    1/4 tsp  mustard seeds
    a pinch  asafoetida
For the garnish:
      Chopped coriander leaves

Instructions:
1. Whisk the curds till smooth.
2. Add the cumin powder, green chilli-ginger paste, black salt and salt and mix well.
3. Add 4 cups of cold water and mix well.
4. If you want to temper the chaas, heat the oil, add the mustard seeds and asafoetida and when the mustard seeds crackle, pour the tempering over the buttermilk. Serve chilled, garnished with chopped coriander.

Serving Suggestions:
Chaas makes a delicious accompaniment for handvo.
