Sophie's Beef Stroganoff

3 tbsp. | salad oil |
2 lbs. | filet mignon cut in thin strips, (you can use sirloin, top round, etc but filet is really the best!) |
1 large | onion, chopped |
1/4-1/2 lb. | fresh mushrooms, (canned ok) |
2 8-oz cans | tomato sauce |
1/2 cup | red wine |
1/2 cup | water |
1 tsp. | salt |
1 tbsp. | Worcestershire Sauce |
1 cup | sour cream |
Cooked egg noodles or rice
Brown meat in oil; remove. Cook onion and mushrooms till golden brown.
Stir in remaining ingredients (except sour cream). Return meat to
pan. Cover and simmer about 1 hr, or until tender (depending on the cut of meat you choose).
Gradually stir in sour cream. Heat almost **NOT QUITE** to
boiling. Serve over hot, buttered noodles or hot cooked rice. Should serve 6. A feast fit for a Russian Czar! Enjoy!!
