Dark Chocolate Brownies with Hot Fudge Sauce

1 1/2 c. | chopped walnuts , or pecans |
1 c. | butter |
6 oz. | bittersweet chocolate |
2 c. | sugar |
4 large | eggs |
1 Tb. | vanilla extract |
1 c. (6 oz.) | semisweet chocolate morsels |
1 c. | all-purpose flour, divided |
1/8 tsp. | salt |
Garnishes: | Hot Fudge Sauce, fresh cherries |
Hot Fudge Sauce: | |
1 (8 oz.) pkg. | unsweetened chocolate baking squares |
1/2 c. | butter |
2 c. | sugar |
1 c. | milk |
1 tsp. | vanilla extract |
1/8 tsp. | salt |
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake nuts in a single layer in a shallow pan 8-10 minutes or until toasted and fragrant.
2. Microwave butter and bittersweet chocolate in a 2-qt. microwave-safe glass bowl at HIGH 1 1/2 minutes or until chocolate is melted, stirring at 30-seconds intervals. Whisk in sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
3. Toss together chocolate morsels, toasted nuts, and 1 Tb. flour.
4. Stir salt and remaining flour into sugar mixture. Stir in nut mixture. Spread batter into a lightly greased 13x9" pan.
5. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes. (A wooden pick inserted in center will not come out clean.) Let cool on a wire rack 1 1/2 hours. Garnish with Hot Fudge Sauce and cherries.
For Hot Fudge Sauce:
1. Melt chocolate and butter in a large, heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly. Add sugar, and cook, stirring constantly, 2 minutes. Add milk, and cook, stirring constantly, 3 minutes or until thoroughly heated and sugar is dissolved. (Do not boil.) Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and salt. Cover and chill leftover sauce up to 2 weeks.
2. To reheat: Microwave sauce in a glass bowl at HIGH 2 minutes or until thoroughly heated, stirring at 1-minute intervals.
Chocolate Milkshakes:
4 cups vanilla ice cream
1 1/2 cups milk
1/3 cup Hot Fudge Sauce
Process all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Serve immediately.
