Sweetheart Sugar Cookies

1 stick | unsalted butter, room temperature |
1/2 cup | grates sugar |
1 large | egg |
1-1/2 tsp. | vanilla extract |
1 tsp. | baking powder |
1/8 tsp. | salt |
1-1/3 cups | all-purpose flour |
Prepared decorating icing in white and pink

Directions
PREHEAT oven to 375*F.
Place butter and sugar in medium bowl. Beat with electric mixer at medium speed until creamy. Scrape down sides of bowl if necessary. Add egg and vanilla, reduce speed to low, and beat in baking powder, salt and flour. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Roll dough out on a floured work surface to 1/8 inch thick. Using heart-shaped cookie cutters, cut out dough and place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake for about 8 minutes, or until cookies begin to brown around edges. Place cookies on a cooling rack and let come to room temperature before decorating. To decorate, spread with icing and sprinkle with sanding sugar.
