Green Beans with Bacon

    1-1/2 lbs  green beans
    3 slices  bacon, coarsely chopped
    1 medium  red onion, thinly sliced, (about 1 cup)
    2 tsp  sugar
    1 clove  garlic, minced
    1/2 tsp  salt
    1/8 tsp  crushed red pepper flakes
    2 Tbsp  red wine vinegar

Bring pot of salted water to boil. Add beans; cook until tender, 7-8 minutes. Drain; reserve. Meanwhile, in skillet over medium-high heat cook bacon until crisp, stirring occasionally, 3-4 minutes; drain on paper towels. Reduce heat to medium-low. To bacon fat in skillet add onion, sugar, garlic, salt and pepper flakes. Cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, 3-4 minutes. Add vinegar; cook 1 minute, scraping up bits from bottom. Toss beans with onion mixture. Sprinkle with reserved bacon.
