Coffee Ring or Sweet dough recipe 1/2 batch

1cup(8fl0z) | tepid water into which put 2.5 pkts yeast |
Set aside Allow the yeast to dissolve in the water. Meanwhile in large bowl put the following: | |
1 cup | slightly warmed milk |
1cup | sugar |
2 tsp | salt |
8 oz | very soft butter |
3 lg | eggs |
1.5 tsp | nutmeg |
Mix well, then add | |
2 lb 8oz | flour,, (see rest of method below) |
Combine the milk, softened butter, sugar, salt and eggs.
Add yeast.
Then add the flour - half first beating well with wooden spoon, then the rest. Form into ball with hands and do not kneed much. Place in large buttered bowl turning rounded side up. Allow to rise for about 1.5 hours.
Knock down and form into coffee rings. (large rectangles spread with butter, cinnamon, sugar and raisins then rolled up and twisted into rings).
Allow to rise again about 40 min (15 min before time up, turn on oven)
Bake @ 180C (350F) for about 30 min but check after 20-25)
Allow to cool thoroughly before drizzling on frosting (bit of butter mixed with icing sugar, 1/2tsp vanilla and hot water)
Allow to cool before cutting.
