Apple Dumplings

    ¾ tsp.  Salt
1/c plus 2 tbs. Shortening
    3 tbsp.  Water
    4  apples
    2/3 cups  sugar
    2 tbsp  butter
    ¼ tsp  cinnamon
    1/3 cup  water
    1/3 cup  sugar
    1 tsp  cinnamon
    2 tsp  butter

Mix flour and salt in bowl. Cut in shortening until particles are the size of peas. Sprinkle with water 1 tbls at a time, press dough into ball. Place on lightly floured waxed paper, cover with another layer of waxed paper and into rectangular form cut into 7 inch squares.
Pare and core apples, boil the following four ingredients for 3 minutes: 2/3 cup sugar, 1 ½ cup water, butte and cinnamon.
Place apple in center of each square fill with dry mixture of 1/3 cup sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon. Dot each with butter. Cover pastry over apple, pour hot syrup around dumplings, and bake at 425 for 45 minutes.
