Carey's Chocolate Chip Cookies

preheat oven to 350 degrees. spray a cookie sheet with cookie spray.
1. In a large bowl, combine 2 sticks (or 1 cup) softened butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1 egg, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. With an electric mixer, beat on slow speed, then gradually move up to a high speed. Beat untill smooth and light in color.
2. In a medium bowl, combine 2 cups all-purposes flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Add flour mixture to butter mixture a little at a time, mixing after each addition.
4. Stir in about 2 cups (more if you like more, less if you like less) chocolate chips. You can also add m&ms, nuts, butterscotch chips, white chocolate chips, etc.
5. drop dough by heaping tablespoons onto a cookie sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes or until tops of cookies begin to brown. Let them cool a bit, then move onto a cooling rack.
