OLD FASHIONED BEEF STEW

INGREDIENTS: | |
1 1/2 to 2 lbs. | Stewing meat, cut into 1/2 to 1 inch cubes |
2 to 3 medium | potatoes, cubed |
1 medium | turnip, cubed |
1 cup | sliced carrots |
1/2 cup | chopped onions |
1/4 to 1/2 cup | sliced celery |
1/2 to 1 cup | sliced mushrooms |
1/2 cup | Lima beans |
1 can(10oz) | condensed beef broth |
1/4 cup | red wine |
1/2 tsp | salt |
1/4 tsp | pepper |
Pinch | thyme |
3 tbsp | flour blended with 1/4 cup flour |
1/2 cup | frozen mixed vegetable |

PREPARATION: In a slow cooker,combine beef,potatoes,turnips,carrots,onions,celery, | |
Mushrooms, Lima beans,beef broth,wine,salt,and pepper. Cover and cook on | |
low for 9 to 12 hours,or on HIGH for 5 to 6 hours. Add thyme and frozen | |
Vegetables, corn,or peas,thawed,if using. Pour liquids into medium saucepan |
and simmer to reduce slightly. If desired,skim off excess fat. Add the flour
and water mixture and simmer until thickened. Add back to vegetables and
continue cooking on LOW until serving time. Serves 6.
