| 2 tsp | baking powder |
| 1 tbsp | sugar |
| 1/2 tsp | salt |
| 1 1/2 cup | cornmeal |
| 1 | egg beaten |
| 3/4 cup | milk |
| 1 small | onion finely chopped |
| Celery | |
| Shortening | |
| oil for deep frying, alternative |
Combine dry ingredients; add egg and milk. Mix lightly. Stir in onion. Drop by teaspoonful into deep fryer a few at a time. Drain on absorbent paper towel.
