Aunt Frieda's Molasses Cookies

| 1 c | shortening, (yellow Crisco) |
| 1 c | sugar |
| 1/2 t | salt |
| 1 | egg |
| 1 t | soda |
| 3/4 c | dark Karo syrup |
| 3 c | flour, sifted with |
| 2 t | cinnamon |
| 1 t | allspice |
| 1/8 t | ground cloves |
| 1/8 t | nutmeg |
Cream shortening & sugar. Add salt, egg. Mix well. Then add syrup & sifted dry ingredients.
Make small balls and press with glass covered with nylon stocking.
