    10 cups  water, chicken broth, or mixture of both
    4 cups  dried split peas, rinsed and picked cleaned
    1 cup  diced ham
    1 cup  chopped celery
    1 cup  chopped onion
    1 cup  sliced carrots
    1 teaspoon  salt
    ½ teaspoon  pepper
    ¼ teaspoon  crushed dried marjoram
    1  bay leaf

Put all the ingredients into the slow cooker. Cover with the lid and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours. Or cook on high for 6 hours, until the split peas are tender.
