Italian Sausage Strata

12 slices | white bread |
1 lb | Italian sausage |
1/2 lb | fresh mushrooms, sliced |
1 med | onion |
1/4 cup | butter, melted |
4 cups (16 oz) | shredded cheddar |
5 | eggs, beaten |
2 1/4 cups | milk |
1 tbsp | Dijon mustard |
1 tsp | dry mustard |
1 tsp | ground nutmeg |
1/2 tsp | salt |
1/4 tsp | pepper |
1. Place 6 slices bread in lightly greased 13x9x2 baking dish.
2. Cook sausage & next 3 ingredients in of skillet over med heat until sausage is browned. Drain well. Spoon half of mixture over bread. Sprinkle half of cheese over sausage. Layer 6 more slices of bread, sausage and cheese.
3. Combine eggs and next 6 ingredients; pour over cheese. Cover and refrigerate 8 hrs.
4. Remove from refrigerator; let stand at room temp for 30 mins. Bake, uncovered, at 350 for 50 minutes.
